At Arenas Immigration Law, our firm is based in Raleigh, North Carolina, and we are passionate about helping immigrants by educating them about their rights and providing them with the legal services they need. One of the many ways we can assist our clients is by helping them navigate the adjustment of status process.

Adjustment of Status in Raleigh, North Carolina

Adjustment of status is the process by which eligible non-U.S. citizens who are already in the United States can become legal permanent residents. It is one of two main ways that individuals can apply for a green card (the other being consular processing, which is for non-citizens who are applying from outside the U.S. at a U.S. embassy or consulate). Adjustment of status allows for temporary residents to remain in the U.S. during their application process.

When we assist you with adjusting your status, we will first check your eligibility and determine which immigrant category you should apply under. For example, you may be able to apply for a green card through family, employment, or for humanitarian reasons. Next, we will work with your sponsor, such as a family member or employer, to file the proper petition and other necessary documentation. Following the petition’s approval, we will file Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, ensuring all documents and information meet USCIS requirements. You will be scheduled for a biometrics appointment and may be required to attend a USCIS interview to answer questions. After the interview and once your application has been processed, you will receive a decision.

Our attorneys and staff will work tirelessly to strengthen your application, answer your questions, prepare you for your interview, and provide the legal support you deserve. If you need assistance with the adjustment of status process, schedule a consultation.
